Education system; Overview

The central and most state boards uniformly follow the "10+2+3" pattern of education. In this pattern, study of 12 years is done in schools or in colleges,and then 3 years of undergraduate education for a bachelor's degree.The first 10 years is further subdivided into 5 years of primary education, 3 years of upper primary, followed by 2 years of high school.[11]:5 This pattern originated from the recommendation of the Education Commission of 1964–66.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is the apex body for curriculum related matters for school education in India.The NCERT provides support and technical assistance to a number of schools in India and oversees many aspects of enforcement of education policies. Other curriculum bodies governing school education system are:
In addition, NUEPA (National University of Educational Planning and Administration)[16] and NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) are responsible for the management of the education system and teacher accreditation.
